Mr. Dexter Cooper

Mr. Dexter O’Brian Cooper Dexter was born on August 15, 1968, to the late Claude N. Cooper and the late Margie Ruth (Kelly) Cooper. He was born and raised in Newton County. Dexter suddenly passed away on May 27, 2025. He was loved by all who knew him, and he never met a stranger. His personality lit up any room that he entered. He did not let his disability stop him from accomplishing the things he wanted to do. He was a diligent worker, who inspired us all! He loved his job at Covington Ford. He was the first person who the customers saw, and he greeted them with a smile and a bit of humor. He was always ready to assist with whatever their needs were. Dexter was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis when he was 13 years old. He had to learn to do everything (breathe, walk, use his hands, etc.) over again, and he did! He graduated from Newton High School and the Goodwill Training Program. He received a clerical certificate from Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation where he learned to drive and live independently. Even though Dexter had a disability, he insisted on working. He worked for Newton County Medical Center for several years. He also worked at Rockdale Mortgage and remained close to his co-workers and their families. Dexter worked for Covington Ford until his death where he was loved by many, and he loved them back. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, watching a good football game, tennis, and the FBI series. Dexter accepted Christ many years ago. He became a faithful member of Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Greeter! He loved his Bishop and his church family. Dexter is preceded in death by his father, Claude Nathaniel Cooper, his mother, Margie Ruth Cooper, his older brothers, Issac Tyrone and Charles Anthony, and his oldest sister Betty Anne. He leaves to cherish his unforgettable memory four sisters and one brother. Marilyn Russell, Deborah Smith, Phyllis Cooper, Roslyn (Derrick) Jones, and Stanley (Robbie) Cooper; A host of nieces and nephews, who adored him, one of whom was like his brother, Destin Cooper. Cousins who were absolutely crazy about him and friends who he treasured as family. Celebration of Life for Mr. Dexter O'Brian Cooper will be 12:00 Noon Saturday May 31,2025 at Big Miller Grove Baptist Church, Stonecrest, GA. Interment will be in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington, GA. His viewing will be from 12:00 Noon - 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Grace United Methodist Church, Covington, GA.
