Mr. Jarrett Lenelius Smith

Jarrett Lenelius Smith was born on January 23, 1972, to the late Riley Horton and Velma Jean Smith. Three years later, Jarrett was blessed with a bonus father, Gary Barnes, who became an important part of his life. Jarrett was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Horton. Jarrett began his educational journey at Haughbrooks Academy, Florence Jackson Academy, Grove Park Elementary School, and later attended Douglas High School, where he graduated in 1991. He continued his studies at Chaffey Community College in California. At an early age, Jarrett accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined n First Baptist Church of Atlanta under the pastoral leadership of the late, renowned Dr. Charles Stanley. Jarrett's personality was larger than life. He had a remarkable gift for bringing joy, laughter, and love into every room he entered. Deeply devoted to family and friends, Jarrett was cherished by many. His younger cousins especially adored spending time with him, drawn to his vibrant spirit, humor, and genuine warmth. Being in Jarrett's presence meant experiencing fun, unforgettable laughter, and the comforting feeling of being truly loved. He was truly the life of the party, creating memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him. Jarrett will be missed beyond measure. His family remains profoundly grateful to God for the precious time they were blessed to share with him. The memories created through his love, laughter, and presence are everlasting and will never be forgotten. As one family friend so beautifully expressed, "I can't imagine living in a world without Jarrett." Jarrett leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving parents, Gary and Velma Barnes; brother, Reginald (Audrey) Horton; sister, Keisha (Dexter) Porter; god-sister, Casheryl Durham; and god-brother, Rodney Williams. He is also lovingly remembered by his aunts, Julia Mitchell, Maudelle Smith, Linda Barnes, Vickie Griffin, and Sameale Sorrells. Jarrett shared a special bond with his loving and devoted first cousins, whom he loved dearly: James Austin, Stanley Mitchell, Jennifer Mitchell, Connie Smith, Kimberly Parks, and Bernard Mitchell. He also leaves behind his cherished bonus aunts, Virginia Crawford, Elaine Williams, and Bridgette Davis. His memory will continue to be honored by his bonus brothers and sisters: Precious Hill (Benny), Kevin Broughton, Carletha Jordan, Shawn Durham, Andre Marlin, Tammy Hood, Raycine Mormon, Christopher Hitchcock, and Eric Cooper. Jarrett also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his life, love and lasting impact. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mr. Jarrett Lenelius Smith will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 23, 2026 in the Chapel of Young Levett Funeral Home, Monroe.
