Mrs. Eary Benjamin Strickland was born May 14th in Statesboro, Georgia to the late John and Henrietta Benjamin. Eary accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior very early in life. She had a special relationship with the Lord, and all of her endeavors were geared toward pleasing and trusting Him. Eary’s church foundation began at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Statesboro, Georgia. When she moved to Savannah, Georgia, St. Philip A.M.E became her church home. Eary loved gospel music and loved to sing. She became a faithful member of the St. Philip A.M.E Angelical Choir which performed many church concerts. The choir received many accolades during their performing years. In holy matrimony, Eary married Rufus Strickland who preceded her in death. To this 55 year union, three daughters were born, Barbara Jean (deceased), Uvedia Shavon, and Linda Teresa. Eary relocated to Covington, Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In Covington, she became a member of the Voices of Wisdom Choir while attending the Josephine B. Brown Newton County Senior Services Center. Eary enjoyed traveling with the choir lifting the spirits of others through song. Eary chose St. Philip A.M.E. Church, Atlanta, Georgia as her church home where she attended regularly and enjoyed the many programs and services offered. Our Lord and Savior called Eary home on Monday, September 21, 2020 while at home surrounded by loving family. Eary was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Jean Jackson, Herndon, VA. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, John Benjamin, Jr., Lou Sara Alston, who both lived in Savannah, GA, and Mrs. B.J. Clifton, Statesboro, GA. To cherish her memories are her children, Shavon (Rodney) LeCounte, Covington, Georgia, Linda Teresa Jackson, Columbus, OH, and son-in-law, Donald R. Jackson, Herndon, VA.
